The hotel we will be
staying at is very close to the Warehouse/Arts District and I think it is worth
the time to look around. Walking through the warehouse district will feel like walking
through time because there are so many original warehouses from so long ago
standing where they originally stood. The architecture is colorful and fun and
there are many museums. Mardi Gras World, The National World War II Museum, and
a couple art museums are very popular in this area. There are many different
buildings in this area, and you will see lots of color along with old
warehouses. One restaurant that stuck out to me was Mulate’s: The Original
Cajun Restaurant, it is the first restaurant that made Cajun food and Cajun
dancing became popular. I love Cajun food and can’t wait to eat some authentic
Cajun food in New Orleans. Acme oyster bar is another restaurant worth a visit
in the warehouse district. The charbroiled oysters are absolutely delicious and
a must have in the city. Julia street, which is very close to our hotel, is
known for all the art. The art museums are on Julia street are very large and
hold many different pieces of artwork that are unique and always changing. Every first Saturday of the month are
“First Saturday Gallery Openings” or art walk along Julia street. On these
Saturdays the art galleries open up their doors to show new exhibits. Julia
street is full of colorful town houses and apartments as well. In my research I
saw a quote that stated the Warehouse District is “where the past meets
present”. There is so much history and old buildings, but it still has a modern
vibe in this district. Another aspect of this district I am interested in
looking for is the murals that are painted on these old warehouses. There were five
new murals revealed in June of 2019, so there is new street art to see. To find
these murals you can text "Unframed" to 56512 for the locations. When
walking through the ware house district to get to the French Quarter take your
time to enjoy the scenery and history of what was once there many years ago and
how the city has made it into its own art.
