While we discuss a
lot of history in New Orleans and many of the buildings have been there for
decades there are many modern aspects to the city as well. The uniqueness of this
city is the fact they have kept more historical old buildings, rather than
replace them with new more modern types of architecture. New Orleans is a great
historical spot, but the modern architecture sticks out in a city full of old
buildings. Self-expression is a big culture in New Orleans and you can see it
in some of the more modern architecture express this as well. One building that
is relatively close to our hotel that has a different, more modern look is The
National World War II Museum. It is a large geometric concrete museum with
large windows located in the Warehouse District. I find it interesting that a
very modern looking building is a place that houses such old memories of
history. In Uptown there is a very interesting house that is a reimagined
shotgun style home. The architecture is more artistic the design to it. It
appears to be twisting as is stretches back, which I think is so cool. It is a
private residence, but I would love to see what the interior of this home looks
like. It is located uptown on Magazine street and would be worth the view if
you find yourself in that area. Lastly a more well-known piece of modern
architecture in New Orleans is the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. It is where the New
Orleans Saints play their games. It opened in 1975 and has had some renovations
since then. It catches the eye of most coming into the city. It is a huge
concrete dome that gets lit up at night makes it even more appealing to the
eye.
